It's actually become my default way to move or resize my windows. This is incredibly helpful when wanting to move or resize windows that are behind other windows. Besides being able to place windows exactly where I want them with a simple keyboard shortcut (or Drag Areas which I don't use), this app has a couple other features that are actually the most valuable to me: moving and resizing windows by simply holding modifyer key(s) and placing the cursor over any part of the window, whether the window is active or not. (And if I were to use Snap Areas, I can customize the look of them which is nice.) This app is incredibly useful for me for both software development and day-to-day use. Once you've set it up, it feels like it's just native OS behavior. For my use, BetterSnapTool is invisible and just works in the background to perform actions when I use certain modifyer keys and keyboard shortcuts. I think this is one of the best apps that you can get for just a few dollars. select what happens when right-clicking any of the red/orange/green window buttons of any windowīetterSnapTool is very customizable and will change the way you work with your Mac!īetterSnapTool works with almost every application, only some apps with non-standard windows can't be supported.select what happens when double-clicking a window's titlebar.move or resize the window below the cursor while holding customizable modifier keys.always accessible pop up menu showing all possible snap sizes / positions.customizable keyboard shortcuts to trigger any snap area. These can resize & move windows to any possible position. If you need even more than those standard snap areas, BetterSnapTool now allows you to create your own, custom snap areas anywhere on your display. This enables you to easily maximize your windows, position them side by side or even resize them to quarters of the screen. It may take you some time to get used to the app's unusual interface, but otherwise you'll have no problems with it.Įditors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Contexts for Mac 1.1.BetterSnapTool allows you to easily manage your window positions and sizes by either dragging them to one of the screen's corners or to the top, left or right side of the screen. This app's window numbering features are fast and convenient, as are its other features. If you're often dealing with numerous open windows and want to jump between quickly, Contexts for Mac can make your life easier. Another noteworthy shortcut is the ability to type a part of a window title, filtering the app list in the process. A nice feature of the app is the grouping and numbering of windows through the sidebar as you can instantly access windows by pressing the unique numbers assigned to them while holding an adjustable modifier key. Although the sidebar is supposed to automatically hide when using fullscreen apps, in our tests it remained visible. While it's running, you will notice that Contexts for Mac doesn't feature a main window or dock or menu bar icons, but rather a switcher panel and sidebar, both of which can have their width adjusted. Another feature worth noting is a sidebar that lets you switch between windows just by using a mouse or a trackpad. In addition to having the ability to list all running applications, this premium product assigns a number to each open window, allowing you to jump straight to any of them with a keyboard shortcut. Contexts for Mac replaces OS X's default app switcher with a new one that is more customizable.
